Who is Coach Ann?

I'm Ann Hester, M.D., AKA Coach Ann, a double board-certified physician, turned health coach. I'm certified in both Internal Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine, an emerging field based on decades of research on proven methods to Prevent, Treat, and Reverse many common diseases, naturally. To date, fewer than 1% of U.S. physicians (and physicians around the world) are board certified in this game-changing field. I am grateful to be among them.  My role as a coach is to educate, inform, and support lifestyle change to help clients achieve greater wellbeing, regardless of whether they currently suffer from a chronic condition.

Why Consider Health Coaching?

Even Harvard Medical School recognizes health coaching as an effective approach to promoting healthy lifestyle changes. Health coaches assist individuals in adopting and maintaining behaviors such as improved nutrition, increased physical activity, better stress management, and enhanced sleep quality. This personalized guidance can lead to the prevention, management, and even reversal of some lifestyle-related chronic diseases.

What is the Gender Health Gap?

Write your awesome label here.
Bottom Line
  • Premature deaths
  • Ave of 10K minutes lost yearly
  • A trillion$ on the table
  • 137M jobs lost
  • Missed diagnoses
World Economic Forum/McKinsey Health Institute Report

Women lose 75 million years of healthy life annually, equal to 10,080 minutes per woman each year, due to health disparities. These losses stem from under-researched conditions, misdiagnoses, and inadequate treatment for female-specific health issues.

Women Must Become Empowered!

This gap costs the global economy $1 trillion per year by 2040, with 137 million fewer full-time workers due to women's health struggles. Closing it requires better research, sex-specific healthcare, and data-driven solutions to improve women's well-being and economic participation.

Why Do Men Die Younger?

Write your awesome label here.
Bottom Line
  • Delayed preventive care
  • Live 5-6 years less than women
  • Often ignore early symptoms
  • Lost wages/productivity
  • Delayed diagnoses
Leading Killer Strikes Men Earlier Than Women

On average, men live about five to six years less than women, a gap influenced by a mix of biological, behavioral, and social factors. Additionally, societal norms often discourage men from seeking help, contributing to fewer routine health checkups and delayed diagnoses of preventable or treatable conditions. This combination of risk and reluctance makes closing the life expectancy gap a critical public health priority. Much can be done to prevent, treat, and partially reverse many diseases, but it takes a science-backed strategy that works.

Frequently asked questions

Do you offer a money-back guarantee?

No results are guaranteed. However, if you follow the steps outlined in this coaching program you may reduce the risk of multiple chronic diseases, based on decades of medical research. You should always check in with your doctor as this coaching is not medical advice, nor does it seek to diagnose or treat any condition.

When are the sessions?

You can choose to attend one weekly Zoom session, and you are not locked into a specific time each week.

Options:
-Tuesdays from 12 pm - 1 pm EST
-Wednesdays from 7 pm -8 pm EST
-Thursdays 8 pm - 9 pm EST

What if I miss a session?

The sessions will be recorded and available to review within 24-48 hours in the Wellness Vault.

Do I have to turn on my camera and display my full name.

That is up to you. You can opt to display your entire name, a nickname, or no name in Zoom. You can also decide whether you feel comfortable turning on your camera. In addition, since the sessions will be recorded and available for all coaches to review at their leisure, it is vital that you feel comfortable with your decision to show your face and name as it is possible that you may be visible during the recording.

Can I bring a friend?

These coaching sessions are purely for those who formally enroll. To maintain the integrity of the program, no additional individuals are able to attend.

Can I talk about my medical conditions?

This is NOT a HIPAA-compliant platform, and your protected health information is NOT protected. You should not disclose any personal health information on Zoom.

Do I need to notify my personal healthcare provider I am undergoing health coaching.

Absolutely! You should notify your health care provider BEFORE you begin coaching and always share information you learn with him/her. The information shared in these sessions is based on guidelines for the population in general, not for any specific individual. In addition, the information follows the 6 pillars of Lifestyle Medicine. Most physicians are not extensively trained in this relatively new field and may not be familiar with some of the topics discussed, but there are various online courses available for all healthcare providers at the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.

Why do I need to work with my doctor on issues if you are a doctor too?

I am a double board-certified physician, but I do not practice medicine any longer. In addition, I am here purely in the capacity of a HEALTH COACH, not a physician. You don't have to be a doctor to be a health coach, but my background of decades of direct patient care gives me additional insight into a wide variety of topics. In addition, physicians can only practice medicine (including telemedicine) in the states in which they are licensed. No doctor-patient relationship is created by enrolling in this coaching program.

Can we review my test results?

This is not possible as it is considered practicing medicine. Your personal healthcare provider should review your test results with you.

What can you do and not do during this coaching program?

What a Physician Health Coach Can and Cannot Do
As a physician health coach, I can:

✅ Empower you to set and achieve your health and wellness goals.
✅ Guide you in setting realistic goals, taking actionable steps, and maintaining accountability.
✅ Provide one-on-one and group coaching to support you in implementing the six pillars of Lifestyle Medicine and tracking your progress.

However, I cannot:

❌ Diagnose or treat any medical conditions.
❌ Prescribe medications.
❌ Provide medical advice.
❌ Review or interpret lab tests.
❌ Analyze genetic data.
❌ Develop treatment plans based on lab results, genetic data, medical questionnaires, health history, or any other personal health information.
(This is not an exhaustive list of what I cannot do as a remote health coach.)

Disclaimer: While I am a licensed physician, I provide HEALTH COACHING in a non-licensed capacity, not as a practicing physician. My role is to educate, support and guide you in making informed lifestyle choices. For any specific medical concerns or treatment decisions, please consult your doctor.

How many people will be in my group?

That can vary from one to up to 25 people. Based on the timing of a specific cohort starting, it is possible you may be the only one in that group or others may join in later. Should more than 25 women request a specific day and time, additional slots may be opened up, based on availability.

Do you offer one-on-one coaching?

Absolutely, but the available slots are limited due to time-constraints. If you are interested in one-on-one coaching, please reach out to me.

Can I meet with you before making a decision on health coaching?

Why, of course! I am happy to provide a complimentary discovery call to answer any questions you may have before you sign up.

What happens when the 6 weeks is over?

Great question! You will have ongoing access to a Wellness Vault indefinitely. This Vault will house a variety of resources to help you in your wellness journey. New videos and downloadable resources will be added regularly. There is no additional cost for this service. It's my way of saying thank you for honoring me to help you reach your health goals. I also want to do my best to set you up for long-term success!

Why do you need my cell phone number?

I would like to be able to text you quick motivational messages, updates, and an occasional special offer.  You are under no obligation to participate in this aspect of the coaching program, but a word of encouragement when you least expect it just might be the lift you need to make that day a little better!

Are there any other perks with this coaching program?

I'm so glad you asked! Yes, you will have access to two courses on the PatientWorld.net platform and 20% off any additional courses. You can even share your coupon code with friends and family.

What if I pay and don't sign the Coaching Agreement?

I am happy to address any questions you may have regarding the Coaching Agreement. It is vital that you fully understand what to expect from this coaching program, so your expectations are met. In addition, it is important that you understand what I am and am not able to do in the capacity of health coach, even though I am also a physician. There is an important distinction between practicing medicine and health coaching, and all must understand this distinction. If for any reason you purchase the Coaching Program and opt not to sign the Agreement, you will receive a full refund within 7-10 business days.

What is your background?

Great question! I am board certified in both Internal Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine. I practiced clinical medicine for close to 30 years before I pivoted to a non-clinical role. I have always had a passion to empower people to live healthier, potentially longer lives and I started writing my first book while a third-year medical student. My most recent book, Patient Empowerment 101: More than a book, it's an adventure was published in 2022 and is available on Amazon. I have chosen a wide range of ways to educate people, such as thru running summits, writing articles, becoming a syndicated columnist, appearing on podcasts/CNN, speaking internationally, creating on-demand courses, and health coaching.

Is there any advantage to choosing a physician health coach over one with no medical background?

While some institutions offer a certification in health coaching, the sheer face to face experience with people in the entire spectrum of health and disease over years to decades sets physician health coaches apart. We have a much deeper understanding of what's at stake if our clients do not reach their wellness goals. We've been at the bedside in the hospital and watched people deteriorate, and even pass away. We've had the elation of counseling patients on lifestyle changes and seeing tremendous results. One patient who stands out to me was morbidly obese. We talked and talked over numerous visits. All of a sudden, this patient stopped coming to see me and I was afraid I had gone too far. One day I opened the examining room door to hear, "Dr. Hester! I was trying to wait until I lost 100 pounds, but I got bronchitis so I had to come to see you with a 99 pound weight loss!"  Wow! I don't think I will ever forget the jubilation I felt knowing this lovely person may be spared a tremendous amount of pain and suffering from multiple diseases, simply by making the lifestyle modifications I suggested. That may have been my proudest moment ever as a physician.

What's your coaching approach?

First of all, I recognize that women think differently from men, which is why I did training thru and received a certificate from The Institute of Women-Centered Coaching. We have inner barriers and obstacles that men don't face. Coaching is more than simply giving information. It's about connecting with the inner struggles and obstacles and forging thru with realistic goal setting and accountability. Information does not equal results. The goal of my health coaching program is to empower you with cutting edge research in the realm of the 6 pillars of Lifestyle Medicine, to help you prevent, treat, and reverse as many lifestyle-related diseases as possible. Note that "treat" does NOT mean I am treating your condition. You are to work with your personal healthcare provider for treatment. In the context of Lifestyle Medicine, the framework I use, the word "treat" refers to the ability of some lifestyle modifications to have a beneficial effect on a medical condition. For instance, in some cases, weight loss and sodium reduction may be all that is needed to manage high blood pressure successfully and your doctor may opt to take you off of blood pressure medications. Is it vital to know that you should always be working in concert with your personal medical provider and you should never stop medication on our own. Likewise, prior to making significant changes to your diet or exercise routine you should consult your personal healthcare provider to ask for specific recommendations, such as how often you should check your blood pressure and when to contact her based on the readings.

Will I be given resources for self-study?

Yes. You will have ongoing access to the Vitality Vault even after your 6 week coaching program ends. You may download resources and follow links given for further study.

Since other women will be in the Zoom sessions, how will my needs be personalized?

I will meet with each person for 30 minutes individually, typically within the first two weeks, to get to know you better on a personal level and get a feel for specific resources that will be particularly helpful to you.

How does Lifestyle Medicine coaching differ from traditional health coaching?

Lifestyle Medicine is an exciting and emerging field worldwide. While traditional medicine focuses on therapeutic treatments, such as pills and procedures/surgeries, Lifestyle Medicine focuses on preventing, treating, and at times reversing common lifestyle-related diseases naturally.  An estimated 8 out of 10 visits to the doctor in the U.S.A. are due to lifestyle-related conditions, demonstrating the tremendous potential of this field to make a profound impact on the status of health and wellness.

*One example is that some individuals are able to put their type 2 diabetes into remission with specific Lifestyle Medicine modifications.

*Another is that numerous studies show that women who follow these pillars can decrease their risk of breast cancer.

Lifestyle modifications can significantly improve, treat, or even reverse many health conditions. Below is a categorized list of lifestyle-related conditions that can benefit from changes in diet, exercise, stress management, sleep, toxin avoidance, and social connection.
*Type 2 Diabetes – Can sometimes be put into remission with diet, exercise, and weight loss.
*Prediabetes – Potentially reversible with lifestyle changes.
*High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) - Can often be managed in part or entirety with lifestyle changes.
*High Cholesterol (Hyperlipidemia) – Improved through diet, exercise, and weight loss.
*Obesity and Overweight – In many cases can be managed effectively with lifestyle changes. *Metabolic Syndrome – A cluster of conditions (high blood sugar, high blood pressure, obesity, high cholesterol) that can be improved with lifestyle modifications.
*Heart Disease (Coronary Artery Disease) – Can be slowed or even partially reversed with a whole food, plant-based diet and exercise.
*Stroke Risk – Reduced through blood pressure control, diet, and physical activity.
*Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) – Improved circulation and symptoms with exercise and diet.

Note, this is NOT a guarantee that this program will provide these benefits to any individual. There is sound research which demonstrates the POTENTIAL to have significant effects in a portion of those studies, but individual results vary significantly.

Do Lifestyle Medicine pillars benefit children and men as well?

But of course! These proven pillars of health have the potential to transform the health trajectory of children and adults of all ages.

Will this program help me lower my medical bills?

By following the pillars taught in this program, you will empower yourself to decrease your risk of some of the most common diseases we face, including, but not limited to heart attacks, strokes, high blood pressure, diabetes, and some forms of cancer. If you have already been diagnosed with a chronic condition, following these pillars may significantly improve your outcome. As a result, there is a great potential to lower your medical bills when compared to what they would have been without your lifestyle interventions.

How long will it take to see results?

Some results may be felt on day one, such as an improvement in your emotional well-being by making some simple food swaps or as a result of the endorphins from exercise. Others may not be felt directly, but may be picked up by your doctor on bloodwork, such as a lower cholesterol level.

Is this program filled with complicated medical terms I can't pronounce, let alone understand?

Not at all. My style is very laid back. Just think of me as your next door neighbor who just happens to be a doctor giving you the inside scoop on health and longevity pearls. Feel free to call me Ann. Expect some humor along the way...always clean.

How reputable is Lifestyle Medicine?

Very!  The American Medical Association issued a resolution in 2017 that physicians should learn and apply the principles of lifestyle medicine; the evidence it works is that profound.
